Slingshot is tackling one of the most urgent and under-served markets in healthcare: the global mental health crisis. With demand for therapy far outstripping supply, over 50 million U.S. adults with mental illness and only around 500,000 licensed behavioral health providers, consumers are increasingly turning to AI for support. General-purpose LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude are already being used for therapeutic conversations, but they lack structure, nuance, and safety guardrails. Slingshot is taking a fundamentally different approach with Ash, the first foundation model built specifically for psychology. Pre-trained on one of the largest behavioral health datasets and fine-tuned with CBT, DBT, ACT, and psychodynamic frameworks, Ash is designed to emulate the dynamics of real therapy: knowing when to probe, when to challenge, and when to remain silent.
