About Skild AI
At Skild AI, we are building the world's first general purpose robotic intelligence that is robust and adapts to unseen scenarios without failing. We believe massive scale through data-driven machine learning is the key to unlocking these capabilities for the widespread deployment of robots within society. Our team consists of individuals with varying levels of experience and backgrounds, from new graduates to domain experts. Relevant industry experience is important, but ultimately less so than your demonstrated abilities and attitude. We are looking for passionate individuals who are eager to explore uncharted waters and contribute to our innovative projects.
Why It's a Rocketship
Why It's a Rocketship
The robotics industry has long pursued the holy grail of a general-purpose “brain” that can reason, plan, and act across tasks, environments, and hardware. Historically, the barrier was data scarcity and brittle, task-specific programming. With the rise of large-scale vision-language-action models, that barrier is finally breaking. Skild AI, founded by CMU professors and world-renowned roboticists Deepak Pathak and Abhinav Gupta, is leading this new frontier with the ambition to create a general robotics foundation model. Their thesis is simple and profound: intelligence, not hardware, has been the bottleneck to real-world deployment, and the breakthroughs of the past two years prove that scaling embodied intelligence unlocks emergent capabilities in the physical world just as it did in language.
In just over a year, Skild raised a $300 million Series A at a $1.5 billion valuation, backed by Lightspeed, Sequoia, Felicis, Coatue, SoftBank, Jeff Bezos, and others. Their model has already demonstrated generalization across manipulation, locomotion, and navigation, including folding clothes, opening doors, and traversing uneven terrain, using a single adaptable architecture. The implications are massive: 85% of warehouses still lack automation, and millions of industrial, healthcare, and construction jobs face labor shortages or safety risks. If Skild succeeds, it will enable low-cost robots to perform dexterous, safe, and adaptable work across industries, reshaping the $15T global physical economy. This could be robotics’ “GPT-3 moment,” the leap from narrow demos to a generalizable foundation model that makes embodied intelligence mainstream. With one of the strongest technical founder teams in AI, early proof of emergent behavior, and capital from the world’s top investors, Skild is well positioned to define the next industrial revolution.
