Its infrastructure now supports more than 3 billion calls per year and underpins critical systems ranging from aerospace launch monitoring to 25% of U.S. 911 dispatch centers. The inflection came when OpenAI chose LiveKit to power ChatGPT Voice Mode, after which LiveKit released its Agents framework, which quickly became the go-to developer toolkit for building voice AI agents. With Agents 1.0, LiveKit has extended its capabilities to deterministic workflow orchestration, multilingual turn detection, and enterprise-grade telephony, making it the backbone for both open-ended and closed loop voice agents.

The commercial momentum reflects this strategic positioning. LiveKit surpassed $10 million in ARR last year, raised a $45 million Series B led by Altimeter with participation from Redpoint and Hanabi Capital, and continues to scale its 50-person team to meet global infrastructure demand. Its newly launched Cloud Agents product extends its offering into managed deployment and scaling for voice agents, creating a full-stack platform akin to Vercel for AI-driven communications. Founders Russ d’Sa and David Zhao bring deep expertise in scaling infrastructure from Twitter and Motorola, and have shown exceptional product velocity and adoption across both enterprise and developer ecosystems. As voice becomes the default interface for AI, LiveKit’s combination of infrastructure scale, open source adoption, and enterprise-grade reliability gives it a defensible position as the nervous system of the voice AI era.
