About Liquid
Liquid AI, an MIT spin-off, is a foundation model company headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. Our mission is to build capable and efficient general-purpose AI systems at every scale.
Our goal at Liquid is to build the most capable AI systems to solve problems at every scale, such that users can build, access, and control their AI solutions. This is to ensure that AI will get meaningfully, reliably and efficiently integrated at all enterprises. Long term, Liquid will create and deploy frontier-AI-powered solutions that are available to everyone.
Why It's a Rocketship
Why It's a Rocketship
Liquid AI is re-architecting foundation models with liquid neural networks, a novel architecture inspired by biological brains that delivers causality, interpretability, and massive efficiency gains over transformer-based models. Unlike today’s black-box, compute-hungry LLMs, liquid networks are far smaller, require dramatically less compute, and can adapt continuously beyond training. This unlocks powerful advantages: models that run offline on low-cost hardware, systems that are inherently explainable, and workloads that are environmentally sustainable. With liquid networks, AI shifts from being confined to hyperscale data centers to running at the edge, inside vehicles, IoT devices, and private enterprise systems, expanding the addressable market well beyond transformer-first approaches.
The momentum reflects the magnitude of the opportunity. Liquid AI has raised $250 million at a $2 billion valuation, led by AMD, which will co-optimize liquid models for its GPUs, CPUs, and accelerators. Earlier backers include OSS Capital, PagsGroup, and prominent angels such as Tobias Lütke and Naval Ravikant. Founders Daniela Rus, Ramin Hasani, Mathias Lechner, and Alexander Amini bring unparalleled technical credibility from MIT CSAIL, where liquid networks were invented. The company is already targeting domain-specific and general-purpose deployments across e-commerce, consumer electronics, and biotech, with a roadmap toward open-source liquid foundation models and agentic AI systems. In a landscape where compute bottlenecks and opacity limit transformer growth, Liquid AI offers a disruptive alternative platform that is smaller, cheaper, safer, and more adaptable, positioning it to become one of the most important challengers to the transformer paradigm.
